Web Filtering - Rated G, Pg and X

Web filtering was once only found installed in corporations and in religious homes. Companies realized early on in the Internet era that there is a need for concern about employee Internet usage. That was primarily motivated by concern over lawsuits and the fact that an employer could be liable for what his employee does with the office computer and network as well as the worry about employees wasting time at work while maintaining appearance of being busy.

Among the more conservative and religious, parents tended to take a more involved approach to their children's Internet usage and religious families were early adapters of web filtering technology. There were, and still are, religious oriented ISPs that specialize in providing filtered Internet. Today, web filtering is commonly understood. Ask anyone with an Internet connection and they will probably be able to tell you what a web filter is.

Some ISPs offer their customers a web filtering solution. We prefer finding our own solutions rather than leaving it up to the ISP to choose the filter vendor who gives him the best deal. There are many good web filters to choose from and each one is slightly different so depending on your specific needs, you can find a reliable vendor who you can always turn to when there is a problem and who keeps their products updated.

The ISPs may not know this but web filters are not just for protecting children. The Internet has introduced problems into many adults' lives. More and more adults are installing web filters for reasons other than their children's safety.

Why does an adult need a web filter? Aren't adults responsible enough to use the Internet alone?

Well, the same could be said for many things in our lives, but people just don't work that way. Most people could use a little guidance in their life. And online, a web filter can provide that guidance. There are several Internet problems that can be solved easily by a good web filtering software:

1. Compulsive gambling is a terrible problem aggravated by the availability of gambling sites and online betting and bingo. A web filter can block gambling related websites and stop someone from losing money to an online casino.

2. Porn addiction is a terrible problem. Men, women, teens, and some of the most unlikely candidates are suffering from addiction to porn and the Internet makes it very hard for them to resist looking at pornography and sex sites.

3. Compulsive shopping is a known disorder even before the Internet. It causes serious financial problems and online shopping has made the problem much more serious. When you just click and a package appears the next day, it can feel like magic, until the credit card bill comes to wake you.

4. Internet addiction is a general problem of spending too much time online surfing, chatting, using forums, gaming, socializing, etc. When someone spends more time living online then they do in the real world, it may be time to place some limitations on their surfing.

Installing a good web filter is quick and easy. It is one of the best solutions for making sure that someone is not abusing their Internet use or being exposed to online abuse.
